VIVOSUN Grow Tent Sizes: Footprint, Height and the Right Fan for Each

The name on a VIVOSUN tent tells you the footprint in feet: a 4x4 is 48 by 48 inches, a 2x4 is 48 by 24. What the name leaves out is the height, and height decides two things people forget until the tent is up: how much room is left above the plants for a light, and how much air your fan has to move.
This guide lays out the common VIVOSUN tent sizes with their full dimensions and volume, then goes size by size with the fan VIVOSUN recommends for each. The dimensions come from VIVOSUN's product pages, and the fan pairings from VIVOSUN's own fan-size chart.

Volume is simply width × depth × height in feet. It's the number every fan calculation starts from, so it's worth knowing for your own tent even if your model isn't in this table.
How VIVOSUN turns volume into fan size
VIVOSUN's current growing guide starts with a baseline of tent volume divided by 3. It then adds headroom for anything that slows air down or adds heat: about 40 to 60% for each 90° bend in the ducting, about 60% for a carbon filter, and about 50% for LED grow lights.
For the standard 4x4 (107 cubic feet) with one bend, a filter and LED lights, that works out to 36 × 1.6 × 1.6 × 1.5, or about 138 CFM of real airflow. VIVOSUN's older chart used a full air change every minute instead, which put the same tent at around 406 CFM. Both are estimates. VIVOSUN's own advice is to compare against what a fan delivers with your filter and ducting attached, not its free-air rating, so a fan with room above the lower figure is the safe choice.
Small tents: 2x2, 3x2 and the 32-inch cube
A 2x2 at 48 inches tall is a seedling, herb or single-plant tent. At 16 cubic feet, VIVOSUN pairs it with a 4-inch fan, and the tent itself is light: the S224 uses a 600D Oxford shell, a removable floor tray and a viewing window.
The 32 × 32 × 63 inch cube and the 36 × 20 × 63 inch 3x2 add height, which helps if you hang a light and still want room above taller plants. Neither is on VIVOSUN's fan chart, but at 26 to 37 cubic feet they sit between the 2x2 and the 3x3, so a 4-inch fan is the natural size. VIVOSUN's 4-inch P4 inline fan is rated at 130 CFM and its 4-inch carbon filter at 223 CFM.
In a tent this small, a fan blowing straight at young plants can be too much. VIVOSUN's advice for seedlings is gentle airflow around the clock, never a blast, which is where a two-speed clip fan like the AeroWave A6 on its low setting fits.
Mid tents: 3x3 and 2x4
The 3x3 (36 × 36 × 72) and the 2x4 are a common step up, and the size VIVOSUN makes the LumaLight 200W for. VIVOSUN's chart still calls for a 4-inch fan for both the 3x3 and the 72-inch-tall 2x4. The standard S425 2x4 is 60 inches tall, and its top bars are rated to hold 100 pounds each.
Pick by the shape of your space. A 3x3 suits a corner, and a 2x4 fits along a wall or inside a wide closet. VIVOSUN's tip for the 2x4 is to tape a 4 × 2 foot rectangle on the floor first, so you can see how much room the tent really takes.
The 4x4: the size most setups are built around
At 48 × 48 × 80 inches and 107 cubic feet, the S448 4x4 Grow Tent is where VIVOSUN's chart moves up to a 6-inch inline fan. The S448 uses a heavier 1680D Oxford shell than the smaller tents, hexagon-pattern Mylar walls, and multiple duct ports and cable openings for fans, humidifiers, heaters and AC units.
If you'd rather not size each part yourself, the 4x4 Grow Tent Kit with 400W LED puts the same tent in a box with a LumaLight 400 W, a 6-inch R6 inline fan rated at 390 CFM, a 6-inch carbon filter, ducting and a GrowHub A22 controller. At 390 CFM the kit's fan clears VIVOSUN's 138 CFM estimate for this tent with room for the filter and a bend or two.
Exhaust alone doesn't stir the air between leaves, so a 4x4 also wants a canopy fan. The AeroWave A6 clamps onto the tent's frame poles and sweeps 90° side to side on its own.
Large tents: 5x5, 4x8, 5x10 and up
From the 5x5 (60 × 60 × 80, 167 cubic feet) up, VIVOSUN's chart moves to an 8-inch inline fan, and the 8x8 and 5x10 stay at 8 inches. The 4x8 and 10x10 aren't charted, but at 213 and 667 cubic feet they need at least the same. VIVOSUN's older chart put the 4x8 at around 811 CFM with a filter, ducting and LEDs.
Plants release water vapor as they grow, and in a big tent full of plants that adds up quickly. The AeroDrain D12 Smart Dehumidifier removes up to 12 liters a day and VIVOSUN recommends it for tents up to 5x5 feet, so a 5x5 is the largest tent it's sized for.
Height: the number to check before you buy
Two tents with the same footprint can behave very differently. The 4x4 comes as the 80-inch S448 and the 72-inch R446, and the 2x4 as the 60-inch S425 and the 72-inch upgraded model. Extra height gives you more space between the light and the plants, and more room for a carbon filter hung from the top bars, but it also adds volume your fan has to clear.
Before you order, measure the ceiling where the tent will stand and leave space above the frame for ducting to leave the top port. A 6-inch carbon filter alone is 15.75 inches long.
Which size should you pick?
Work through it in this order:
- Measure the space. Floor footprint first, then ceiling height. If an 80-inch tent won't fit under your ceiling with room for ducting, look at the 72-inch versions.
- Think about what you'll grow. Seed trays, herbs and a single compact plant suit a 2x2. Taller plants want the extra height of a 3x3 or 2x4. If you want room to reach around the plants, start at a 4x4.
- Check your power and noise budget. VIVOSUN's 4-inch P4 draws 7 watts and is rated at 26 dB. The 6-inch P6 draws 22 watts and is rated at 32 dB(A). An 8-inch system is a bigger step again.
- Plan ventilation with the tent. Buy the fan, filter and clip fan for the size you choose, not the size you might move up to. For a 4x4, the 4x4 Grow Tent Kit does that matching for you.
